WhatsApp users will soon be allowed to leave groups privately and anonymously, according to Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta. The social networking platform just added additional privacy features, which include this.
With the “Leave Groups Silently” function, only the admins will be notified when a group member leaves rather than the entire group. This month, the feature will begin to go out to all users.
In addition, WhatsApp users can stop others from taking screenshots of messages marked as “see once,” according to Zuckerberg.
“New privacy features coming to WhatsApp; exit group chats without alerting everyone, manage who can see when you’re online, and prevent screenshots on view once messages,” Zuckerberg said on his Facebook page on Monday.
He continued, “We’ll continue to develop new ways to safeguard your messages and keep them as private and secure as face-to-face discussions.”
Additionally, WhatsApp released a statement claiming that “everyone has experienced times when they wanted to check their WhatsApp secretly.” While seeing when friends or relatives are online might make users feel connected to one another, it can also be a lonely experience.
WhatsApp will soon let you choose who can and cannot see when you’re online for those occasions when you want to keep your internet activity private.
It was mentioned in relation to the “View Once Messages” feature that “View Once” is already a hugely well-liked method of sharing images or other types of data that don’t require a permanent digital record.
In order to give an additional layer of security, WhatsApp has now enabled screenshot blocking for View Once messages. The rollout of this feature to consumers is still under test, it stated.
The company added that the introduction of these new features is supported by a recent WhatsApp privacy study, which found that 72% of people value being able to speak honestly and unfilteredly, but that more than 47% are only comfortable doing so in a safe, private space.
